Biography
ICREA Research Professor Dr. Xavier Salvatella is a renowned biochemist based at IRB Barcelona. He earned his BSc in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona and an MSc from Queen Mary College, London. He completed his PhD under Dr. Ernest Giralt, using nuclear magnetic resonance to study protein interactions, particularly with the tumor suppressor P53. Dr. Salvatella then conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the structural heterogeneity of proteins under the guidance of Drs. Michele Vendruscolo and Chris Dobson.
Currently, Dr. Salvatella leads a team investigating the roles of intrinsically disordered protein domains in diseases like cancer and neuromuscular disorders. His research has significant implications for drug development, particularly in targeting disordered proteins, leading to his co-founding of Nuage Therapeutics, a company specializing in cancer drug discovery.
