Biography

Tore Bengtsson is Professor of Molecular Biosciences at Stockholm University, based at the Wenner-Gren Institute. His research focuses on cellular energy metabolism and hormone signalling, with particular emphasis on how insulin, adrenergic signalling and related metabolic regulators control glucose uptake, lipid metabolism and mitochondrial function.

Bengtsson’s work spans molecular, cellular and physiological levels, linking fundamental signalling mechanisms to whole-body metabolic regulation. He has contributed to key insights into how metabolic pathways can be modulated to improve insulin sensitivity, muscle function and energy balance, and how dysregulation of these pathways contributes to metabolic disease, including type 2 diabetes. His research combines basic discovery with translational perspectives and includes collaboration with industry on metabolic targets. He leads an active research group and has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals.
