Biography
Bacterial pathogens continuously adapt to host environments during infection, often becoming increasingly difficult to eradicate despite antimicrobial treatment and active host immune responses. My research focuses on understanding the adaptive processes that enable bacterial pathogens to persist during infection and how these processes influence antimicrobial resistance, bacterial physiology and host-pathogen interactions.
To address these questions, I combine approaches from evolutionary biology, microbiology, genomics and infection research, integrating experimental infection models with clinical bacterial collections. By studying how pathogens adapt within the host, I aim to generate new knowledge that can contribute to the development of improved strategies against persistent and antimicrobial-resistant infections.
