Biography
Kajsa Sjöholm is an associate professor at the Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. Her research focuses on obesity, metabolic diseases, and the long-term effects of weight-loss interventions. As a key contributor to the Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) study, she has co-authored research demonstrating that significant weight loss can offer lasting health benefits—even when some weight is regained—by reducing risks of cardiovascular and microvascular diseases without shortening life expectancy. Sjöholm's research also explores how delays in diabetes onset affect mortality in individuals with obesity. Her expertise spans molecular biology, gene expression, and clinical epidemiology, with publications in leading journals such as The Lancet Regional Health – Europe and Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism. Through her work, she aims to inform more effective, personalized approaches to obesity treatment and prevention.
