Biography

Jessica Edstorp is a PhD candidate in diabetes epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Her main research interest is risk factors for adult-onset diabetes, particularly in relation to genetic susceptibility, with special focus on the form called latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). In her research she uses different methods like combining observational studies and mendelian randomization design, as well as meta-analysis. The overall aim of the research is to identify environmental factors that can be used to prevent LADA and increase knowledge about adult-onset autoimmune diabetes.

An important cornerstone of this work is the ESTRID study (Epidemiological study of risk factors for LADA and type 2 diabetes), an ongoing multicenter study conducted at Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. ESTRID is the largest and most detailed study of LADA to date and provides unique opportunities to study the influence of both environmental and genetic factors.
