Biography

Flemming Pociot is a clinical professor and department head at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and the University of Copenhagen. He is internationally recognised for his work on the causes, development, and treatment of type 1 diabetes. His research combines genetics, immunology, beta-cell biology, and advanced technologies like RNA and lipid profiling to identify early biomarkers and new treatment targets. Pociot leads major international consortia and clinical trials, including studies of immune modulation and precision therapies for newly diagnosed patients. He is also pioneering new methods for risk prediction based on microRNAs and other molecular markers. His goal is to translate discoveries from the lab into tools that can improve diagnosis, prevention, and personalised treatment of type 1 diabetes.
