Biography
Esben Agerbo is Professor and DrMedSc at Aarhus University, where he heads research at the National Centre for Register-based Research. Trained in mathematical statistics and economics, he later earned a doctoral degree in epidemiology and has led NCRR’s research since 2015.
His work uses large-scale register data to investigate the genetic, environmental, and social determinants of health. He is an expert in polygenic modeling, causal inference, survival analysis, and population health trends. Agerbo’s research spans mental disorders, socio-economic health gradients, neurodevelopmental risks, and lifespan outcomes.
By combining genetics with register-based epidemiology, his studies reveal how biology, environment, and policy shape human health. This knowledge helps inform preventive strategies and data-driven approaches to some of society’s most pressing health challenges.
