Dorthe Bomholdt Ravnsbæk

Professor

Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University, Denmark

Biography

Dorthe Bomholdt Ravnsbæk is a professor of Materials Chemistry at Aarhus University and affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO). She earned her PhD in Nanotechnology in 2011 and later worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT, where she explored how advanced X-ray methods can reveal what happens inside batteries while they operate. From 2015 to 2021 she was Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, before returning to Aarhus to lead her own research group. Her work focuses on developing new, sustainable materials for rechargeable batteries and on understanding how atomic and nanoscale structures affect performance. Using cutting-edge in situ and operando techniques, her group makes visible the hidden processes that govern energy storage. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Danish Elite Research Prize in 2023, for groundbreaking insights that push battery science forward.
