Biography

Adam Sander Bertelsen is professor at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen and co-founder of the Danish biotech company AdaptVac. With a background in virology, immunology, and vaccine development, he explores how to train the immune system more effectively—using advanced technologies like mRNA and virus-like particles (VLPs). These particles mimic real viruses without causing disease and can be encoded via mRNA to trigger stronger, longer-lasting immune responses. His research played a key role in building Denmark’s vaccine capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to push the boundaries of how vaccines are designed, produced, and delivered. Bertelsen combines academic research with biotech innovation, transforming molecular insights into real-world tools to fight both emerging infections and global health challenges.
