Biografi

Kristian Kjær Petersen is a translational pain researcher exploring how the brain and nervous system process chronic pain. With a background in medicine and biomedical engineering, he bridges neuroscience and clinical practice to better understand pain mechanisms and advance personalized pain medicine. He leads research at Aalborg University’s Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) and the Center for Mathematical Modeling of Knee Osteoarthritis (MathKOA), focusing on sleep, gender, and neuroimmune factors in pain. Petersen has received international recognition, including the Young Researcher Talent Award from the Danish Rheumatism Association. He also chairs the Musculoskeletal Special Interest Group for the International Association for the Study of Pain and serves as section editor for Pain Reports. His ambition is to shift chronic pain care from one-size-fits-all approaches to precision-based diagnosis and treatment rooted in individual biology.
