Konstantin Khodosevich is Professor at the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC), University of Copenhagen. His research explores how the brain develops its intricate architecture and what happens when these processes go awry in disorders such as schizophrenia, autism and epilepsy. Using advanced single-cell and spatial omics techniques in both animal models and human tissue, his group investigates how neurons are specified, migrate, and form functional circuits. A particular focus is on fast-spiking interneurons, whose unique metabolic features are essential for their maturation but also make them vulnerable—an imbalance that may underlie psychiatric symptoms. By mapping how genetic and environmental factors interact during critical windows of brain development, Khodosevich aims to uncover when neural networks are most adaptable and open to intervention. His work provides insights into brain plasticity while pointing to new avenues for treating neurodevelopmental disorders.
