Jan Gorodkin is Professor of Bioinformatics at the University of Copenhagen, where he conducts research in computational biology with a particular focus on RNA biology and data-driven analysis of complex biological systems. His work explores how RNA sequence and structure relate to biological function, regulation and evolution, and how computational models can reveal patterns that are difficult to detect experimentally.
Gorodkin is widely recognised for developing algorithms and computational tools for the analysis of RNA structure, non-coding RNAs and comparative genomics. His research spans method development, statistical modelling and large-scale data integration, and addresses broader challenges such as robustness, reproducibility and interpretation of biological data. By combining mathematics, computer science and molecular biology, his work contributes to a deeper, quantitative understanding of gene regulation and cellular complexity, and is published extensively in leading inte
