Biografi

Caitlin Margaret Singleton is Assistant Professor at Aalborg University, where she studies microbial ecology and environmental microbiology with a focus on complex microbial communities in natural and engineered systems.

Singleton’s research uses genome-resolved metagenomics and bioinformatic approaches to investigate microorganisms that are difficult to culture in the laboratory. She is particularly interested in how microbial communities assemble, interact and adapt, and how these processes influence ecosystem function. Her work often explores microbial roles in biogeochemical cycles, including carbon and nutrient turnover, and how microbes respond to environmental change.

By linking genomic data to ecological function, her research contributes to a deeper understanding of microbial diversity and activity in real-world environments. She has received competitive research funding, including a Sapere Aude grant, and her work is published in international peer-reviewed journals.
